We are looking for a PASTRY CHEF for a well-known bakery factory started in 1924. The bakery has its own patisserie, where cakes like marzipancakes, napoleon cakes, wreath cake cheesecake, wedding cakes, and other specialties are made on orders. They have 4 own outlets, and customers elsewhere in old Telemark County. 

 

SKILLS:  

  • Trained pastry chef, possibly a lot of experience.  

  • Be able to make both traditional and modern cakes and decorate cakes for the customers.  

  • English speaking (or Scandinavian): B1. 

 

PLACE OF WORK: Flatdal, Norway 

WORK CONDITIONS:

The LSS group’s mission
The LSS group comprises a range of instruments designed to carry out studies on the structure of matter on a scale of one to hundreds of nanometers and up to microns. The range of science covered is broad, from polymer and colloid science through structural biology, materials science and magnetism.

Your tasks
Working within the LSS Group in the field of Neutron Reflectometry while carrying out your own active research programme on biophysical or soft matter systems at interfaces, you will be in charge of:

  • co-running the FIGARO reflectometer participating both in the day-to-day operation of the instrument as well as its technical development and upgrades,
  • providing support to users for scientific experiments and offering guidance with data analysis,
  • promoting scientific partnerships in your field of research,
  • participating in the longer term development of instrumentation, sample environment and data analysis.
Your profile
  • Ph.D. in physics, biophysics or physical chemistry.
  • Experience of research in soft matter or biological systems at solid/liquid and/or liquid/gas interfaces.
  • General skills in method and/or software development would be an asset.
  • As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL).

LOGISTICS OFFICER/STOREKEEPER

Core mission
As a member of the Purchasing Service (12-person team) within the ILL’s Administration Division, you will be responsible for carrying out a variety of tasks in the Institute’s three stores facilities.

 

Your tasks
Stores inventory control:
• Maintain stock levels, place orders for stock as needed, and monitor product changes (supplier relations)
• Issue Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and miscellaneous items of stock to users at the stores counter
• Manage the procurement of gases
• Establish procedures for stock control and tracking and organise annual stock-taking
• Perform the month-end closing for stock purchases in liaison with the Finance and/or Purchasing Service.

Issuing of goods ordered to users of the ILL stores:
• Take delivery of and check the orders for items stocked in the stores
• Inform users in real time of the receipt of goods they have ordered
• Hand over parcels to users who come to collect their orders
• Liaise with the other stores on the EPN Campus (joint ILL/ESRF stores and goods collection area) and with the ILL’s Transport and Customs group
• Advise users and provide practical assistance with the shipping of goods (in particular concerning packaging).

In addition, you must be able to:
• Organise and plan your work in an optimised manner, based on priorities validated by ILL Management
• Be proactive in driving continuous improvements in the quality of the service provided by reporting problems encountered and proposing solutions
• Help to improve the efficiency of the activities carried out by working and communicating closely with members of the Purchasing Service and with partners outside the service (other ILL services, customers, suppliers, etc.)
• Ensure that you comply with health and safety regulations when carrying out your duties
• Keep up-to-date with technological developments (technology watch) and update your skills accordingly, participating actively in the process of knowledge capitalisation and experience feedback
• Act as contact person for outside companies and organisations
• Report regularly to your line manager on your activities.

 

Your profile

You have a Level 3 or Level 4 (NVQ or equivalent) qualification in logistics with at least two years’ professional experience.
• You are well organised and have a meticulous approach to your work. You are team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a service-oriented attitude.
• You have practical experience of IT tools.
• A forklift operator licence is desirable; you must have a category B driving licence.

Your tasks

Working within the “Nuclear and Particle Physics (NPP)” group, you will:
  • Act as co-responsible for the LOHENGRIN instrument (recoil separator of fission products)
  • Act as co-responsible for the FIPPS instrument (FIssion Product Prompt gamma ray Spectrometer)
  • Support visiting scientists with their fission and gamma ray spectroscopy experiments, and act as Local Contact
  • Pursue your personal research programme in nuclear physics
  • Establish new scientific collaborations for nuclear physics instruments by promoting neutron-induced reactions and nuclear spectroscopy at ILL
  • Contribute to new developments of nuclear physics instrumentation in the NPP-group
  • Contribute to the processing and interpretation of experimental data
  • Supervise Master’s and PhD students in nuclear physics working on ILL’s instruments.

You will receive training on the recoil separator LOHENGRIN and the gamma-ray spectroscopy programme at FIPPS, allowing you to familiarise yourself fully with the scientific possibilities of the entire instrument suite for experiments involving fission and other neutron-induced reactions.

Your profile
You hold a PhD in physics and have a strong knowledge of experimental nuclear physics. Some professional experience as a Post-doc in a research institution would be an advantage. Applications from more experienced scientists able to obtain a secondment period from their home institution will also be considered.

SKILLS:

RESEARCH SCIENTIST- SINGLE CRYSTAL NEUTRON DIFFRACTION D10+

The Diffraction group’s mission
The ILL Diffraction group operates a large suite of powder and single crystal diffractometers to carry out collaborative research programmes in various areas of chemistry, physics, materials science and engineering. The ILL is inviting applications for an instrument scientist on the D10 single crystal diffractometer.
D10 is dedicated to the study of magnetic structures of single crystals and thin films and plays a key role in diverse scientific areas.

Your tasks

  • Developing a research activity in magnetism in collaboration with the user community as part of a personal research programme
  • Providing support to users for scientific experiments on the D10 diffractometer but also on other single crystal diffractometers (D9, D3)
  • Initiating development and maintenance work for the D10 diffractometer
  • Promoting the ILL single crystal programme and conducting teaching and training activities.

 

Your profile
  • PhD in physics, chemistry or material sciences, or equivalent qualification together with an experience in neutron and/or X-ray magnetic scattering techniques.
  • Practical skills in single crystal diffraction, an expertise in magnetic crystallography and knowledge of the group theory are essential for the post.
  • Knowledge of polarized neutron scattering and programming languages (C++, Python, Fortran...) would be an asset.
  • As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL).

TECHNICIAN - MECHANICAL ASSEMBLY AND ALIGNMENT

 
Core mission
As a member of the “Test Hall” group of the Mechanical Service of the Experimental Halls (SMAE), which is part of the ILL’s Projects and Techniques Division, you will join the team responsible for mechanical assembly and maintenance operations on the ILL’s scientific instruments and neutron guides.

Your tasks

  • Assembly and alignment of the ILL’s neutron guides
  • Assembly of mechanical equipment
  • You may be required to perform turning/milling operations using machine tools in order to make necessary minor alterations or adjustments to parts (following in-house training)
  • In addition, you may occasionally be asked to produce and test prototypes or check mechanical parts.

 

Your profile
  • Level 4 qualification (NVQ, BTEC HND or equivalent) in mechanical engineering or maintenance
  • Mechanical assembly skills are necessary
  • Initial experience in the use of three-dimensional measuring machines (such as CMMs or measuring arms) and/or optical alignment techniques (use of theodolite) or alignment techniques based on 3D measurements (laser tracker + 3D measurement software) would be an advantage
  • You are eager to learn and master new techniques
  • You are a methodical self-starter and have an open attitude to giving feedback
  • You have strong communication and teamwork skills.
