FRANCIA - MECHANICAL ENGINEER–TECHNICAL FIRE PROTECTION OFFICER

Core mission
Are you an engineer with a passion for fire risk management? Do you dream of working for a nuclear operator?
Then come and join our Mechanical Engineering Service (35 coworkers), which is part of the ILL’s Reactor Division, and get involved in high-impact fire-protection projects. In this key role, you will liaise with various internal stakeholders at the ILL, while verifying the compliance of the ILL’s installations in this area.
You will also be responsible for accounting for the nuclear materials present on the site, in liaison with the authorities.

Your tasks
As a key member of the team, you will have the opportunity to:

Manage the accounting and inventory of nuclear materials present at the nuclear facility INB 67 and liaise with the authorities in charge of nuclear material control (periodic reporting and inspection).
• Contribute to the updating of documents relating to the ERI fire hazard study (
Etude de Risque Incendie): fire data sheets, CPE (Consignes Particulière d’Exploitation - special operating instructions), technical data sheets, specific studies, training courses for local first response teams (ELPS), etc.
• Verify and ensure the compliance of fire safety installations with the applicable standards (ERI, APSAD, French standards, etc.) and participate in the preventive maintenance of these installations as technical advisor.
• Support the ILL’s Nuclear Safety Unit (
Cellule Sûreté) by ensuring that the ILL’s ERI fire hazard study is updated and implemented: analysis of FEI (installation modification sheets), attendance during ASN inspections and follow-up of the recommendations.
• Manage all technical projects related to fire protection: carrying out preliminary design studies, drafting specifications for the design, manufacture and installation of new equipment and circuits.
• Manage the installation of new equipment in conjunction with the operational teams.
Your profile
Master’s engineering degree in a field relevant to the position (if possible nuclear engineering or equivalent).
• At least 5 years’ professional experience in carrying out projects involving the installation of fire protection systems (passive fire protection systems, active fire protection systems, etc.).
• Knowledge of mechanical design (structures, SKID, circuits, etc.).
• Knowledge of fire protection standards (ERI, APSAD, NF EN 12845, etc.).
• Knowledge of the design standards NF EN 13480, 13445.
• Excellent writing skills (procedures, technical specifications, etc.).
• Strong ability to work independently and set priorities.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: you will be required to work with the operational teams as well as with other parties (control engineers, manufacturing engineer, Reactor Operations Service, CAD technicians, suppliers, inspection body during phases conducted on the worksite, etc.).

You will join the Fluids group, a 12-person team of highly technical experts within the Mechanical Engineering Service of the ILL’s Reactor Division.
This team is responsible for operating and maintaining the reactor’s primary circuits, its fluid supply circuits (secondary circuit, nuclear ventilation, compressed air, refrigeration units, etc.), as well as the associated mechanical equipment: pumps, heat exchangers, purification resins, filtration system, ventilators, etc.

Your tasks
You will take an active part in the following:

Preparing the procedures and work authorisations for maintenance operations in compliance with the conventional and nuclear safety regulations in force at the ILL
• Preparing the maintenance work area, in conjunction with the Health Physics group, selecting the appropriate valve configuration, and performing the maintenance operations
• Producing, where necessary, a maintenance report and filling out the logs for equipment under maintenance
• Performing statutory periodic tests and inspections
• Supervising subcontracted maintenance operations and drafting the corresponding technical; specifications
• Producing reports, process and instrumentation diagrams (PID), etc. in compliance with the ILL’s Integrated Management System
• Assisting on an occasional basis with the operation of other equipment managed by the Fluids group.

Your profile

Level 4/5 qualification (NVQ, BTEC HND or equivalent) in mechanical, thermal or maintenance engineering (or equivalent).
• Experience of maintaining pumping systems and of working within a quality assurance framework is desirable.
• Experience of working in the nuclear sector would be an advantage.
• Knowledge of vacuum techniques (helium leak testing) and the ability to perform simple fluid mechanics calculations would be an asset.
• Good analytical skills and excellent writing skills in French (procedures, technical specifications, etc.).

Your mission
The main objective of this position is to understand residual stress formation during additive manufacturing (AM) by means of neutrons and x-rays monitoring. This will allow to tailor residual stresses in the material and consequently to enhance its mechanical properties. The work is embedded in a direct collaboration with the Institute of Materials Physics in Space of German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Cologne and the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing in Berlin (BAM) for materials characterisation and AM powder-based process development.

Your tasks
Working within our Diffraction group on the strain diffractometer SALSA, your research program will focus on:

  • Residual stress mapping (ex-situ) and monitoring (in-situ) of various materials that are manufactured from powders (steel, Ti-based, bulk-metallic glass).
  • Operando studies on internal stresses development and phase formation using existing set-ups.
  • Assist the scientists in charge of SALSA when they welcome users on experiments with similar scientific scope, in order to further develop your- scientific network.
Your profile
  • Highly motivated candidate with a PhD (obtained less than 4 years ago) in physics, materials science or alike.
  • A strong background in experimental physics or materials science is a prerequisite.
  • Practical experience in diffraction methods and metal AM and/or solidification research would be advantageous.
  • As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.

Duties to be performed 

Depending on the specialisation: 

  • Kids entertainer: recreational, creative, artistic, sportive activities, excursions, theme days with kids divided in groups of ages 4-6 and 7-11 years old; 

  • Sport entertainer: recreational, creative, sportive and adventure activities, excursions, theme days with teenagers (12-15 years old) or adults from 16 years old; 

  • Fitness: run a fitness program within the hotel for teenagers and adults. Always supervised by the chief entertainer. Assist to the kids entertainers for the fit kids day with fitness lessons for kids. Assist in other general duties when needed and no guest join the activities programmed. 

  • For all entertainers: promotion of activities and events within the hotel, public relations with the guests, mini disco for kids, shows, dancing shows, game and comedy nights, decoration, assist in external events promoted by the company. 

Requirements: 

  • Minimum 18 years old (on 03/2022). 

  • Availability from half March until end of October 

  • Good knowledge of English (B2 or higher).

We are looking for staff for a unique adventure hotel from 1894 built in the Norwegian dragon style, with 49 rooms, a majestic hall, historic lounges and a fine dining restaurant in original condition. The hotel is open seasonally from April to October, and has its high season during the summer months.  After the end of the season, there are good opportunities for development and further work in the group for restaurant house in the city centre who can offer the best of an American diner and Norwegian summer food.  

 

  • RESTAURANT MANAGER: you are responsible for the daily operation of the gourmet Restaurant together with chef and F&B manager. 

  • MAÎTRE D'HÔTEL: you are responsible for high end classic dinner service with set menus of four or six dishes that are served in the restaurant. 

  • WAITERS: you are responsible for high end classic dinner service with set menus of four or six dishes that are served in the main dining room. 

  • SOUS CHEF:  you are a central part of the management team in the kitchen, and you will assist our Executive head chef with the daily operations, such as menus, making orders, item counting and service. 

  • CHEF DE PARTIE: you have responsibility for your own station in the kitchen. 

  • SOMMELIER: you will work closely with the restaurant manager to ensure that our wine program is up to standard. 

  • BARTENDER: you will be responsible of daily operations of the exclusive bar of the hotel together with F&B Manager. 

  • Housekeeper: you have an eye for details and thrive in a structured and busy environment, you are efficient and work well in smaller teams.

Your tasks
The Safety Group, comprising a head of group and 2 engineers, is responsible for the safety of the 500 members of the ILL staff, of the Institute's 1500 annual users, and of its service suppliers.
The safety engineers report directly to the Head of the Safety Group. The engineer recruited will work within the team on the following:

  • Preventive measures and controls in the safety domain, such as:

    • proposing general health and safety instructions and procedures to be followed,

    • producing the associated documentation (work authorisation forms, occupational hazard and exposure sheets, workstation risk analyses, risk prevention plans, accident analyses, single assessment documents, etc.) both for ILL operations and work performed by outside contractors,

    • checking that the measures are applied, via visits and audits,

    • advising senior management on the legal and regulatory measures applicable, and monitoring changes in regulations and standards.

  • Needs assessment and provision of information, awareness-raising and training.

  • Safety studies for jobsites, new instruments and ILL experiments.

  • Liaising with the CSSCT [Commissions Santé, Sécurité et Conditions de Travail] (statistics, annual health and safety report) and assistance in the liaison with external agencies (labour inspectorate, inspection bodies, etc.).

  • Providing assistance in the organisation of emergency response operations in the event of an accident, and in the preparation, conducting and assessment of safety drills.

  • Managing dangerous non-radioactive waste and material (transport, recovery, elimination, reporting).

  • Preparation and follow-up of statutory inspections (electrical equipment, lifting gear, pressure vessels, etc.).

  • Managing equipment containing refrigeration fluids and fluorinated greenhouse gases as the process manager.

Your profile

  • Level 7 qualification (Master’s degree or equivalent) in QHSE or similar.

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar post.

  • Excellent writing skills in French.

  • Familiarity with nuclear installations and/or radioactivity would be an advantage.

  • You are independent, methodical, and meticulous in your work

  • Good team spirit is indispensable.

You will join the ILL’s 11-person Health Physics Group, reporting to the Health Physics, Safety, and Environ-ment Service (SRSE). The role of this multicultural team of experts is to ensure provision of the radiation protection for staff working on ILL’s High-Flux Reactor installations.

Your tasks
As a member of the team, you will take an active role in the following:

Preparing operations involving the risk of irradiation and contamination and ensuring radiation protec-tion for those involved
• Taking radiological measurements in the installations, performing analyses in the laboratory (in compli-ance with the 17025 standard), and interpreting the results
• Periodically testing the proper functioning of the health physics instruments
• Preparing documentation associated with your activity (instructions, reports and technical notes)

IMY TUTOR – MOBILITY EXPERT

Il tutor della mobilità IMY è una figura professionale full time, laureata in discipline umanistiche con sede di lavoro in Pistoia che svolge in presenza, attività di preparazione logistica, amministrativa e didattica e accoglienza, accompagnamento, supporto, sostegno e guida degli studenti italymobility provenienti da paesi Europei a extraeuropei.

Il tutor IMY offre anche supporto logistico e coadiuva nella risoluzione di vari problemi legati all'alloggiamento e al trasporto degli studenti con i quali si relaziona quotidianamente, prevalentemente in lingua inglese e spagnola.

Il tutor IMY si interfaccia anche in modo costante, sia mediante email che telefono, con i tutor delle agenzie e scuole che inviano i propri studenti in Italia. Si occupa quindi di promuovere l'immagine del servizio IMY, sia verso l'estero che verso i partner locali, imprese e enti pubblici, anche raccogliendo e pubblicando online foto e notizie riguardanti le attività di mobilità e apprendimento.

Sul territorio, ha quindi rapporti continui di collaborazione con numerose aziende con le quali dialoga mediante la propria controparte che è il tutor aziendale che ha in carico il tirocinante IMY durante il suo tirocinio in azienda.

E' in constante contatto con gli studenti che segue nelle loro varie fasi di soggiorno, li aiuta a superare gli ostacoli e trova le soluzioni necessarie al superamento dei problemi.

Per svolgere il proprio lavoro utilizza numerosi strumenti digitali e di altro tipo:

  • Limesurvey

  • Sistemi di video conferenze e video chat

  • Conduce un minibus da 9 posti per il quale è richiesta la patente di guida di tipo B

L'orario di lavoro è di 8 ore giornaliero. Gli straordianari sono retribuiti secondo quanto previsto dal contratto nazionale Commercio e servizi.
