SKILLS:  

  • Previous experience from similar type of work within the natural stone industry, in either Norway or other countries in Europe. 

  • The work language in production is English, and good English speaking skills is a requirement. Willing to learn Norvegian – basic level.  

  • Millimeter precision and a high degree of attention to details.  

  • To be able to work with manual finish on countertops and other products, including polishing, instalment of sinks, finalization of more complex products (e.g. furniture), incl. 45° joints. 

 

PLACE OF WORK: Sandefjord, Norway (only 5 minutes from Torp airport, with easy access to many European cities) 

WORK CONDITIONS: 

  • Permanent condition, starting after agreement. 

  • Full time, 7.5 hours per day, five days per week on morning and evening shifts (06.00 to 22.00), or on rotation (eg. 2 weeks work and 1 week off).

FRANCIA - MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Context
You will join the (12-person) ”Fluids” team within the Mechanical Engineering Service of the ILL’s Reactor Division. This team of highly technical experts is responsible for operating and maintaining the reactor’s fluid circuits (primary circuit, secondary circuit, nuclear ventilation, compressed air, refrigeration units, etc.) and the associated mechanical equipment (pumps, heat exchangers, purification resins, filtration system, ventilators, etc.).
 

Your tasks
Your main role will be to operate, maintain and repair the equipment associated with the reactor's primary and secondary circuits and the ventilation and utility supply circuits, while ensuring compliance with a strict maintenance process. This will involve performing the following tasks:

  • Preparing the documentation required for maintenance operations and statutory periodic tests and inspections: drafting of work procedures and work authorisations

  • Preparing and setting up the work site: selecting the appropriate valve configuration and preparing the work area in conjunction with the Health Physics group

  • Performing the work operation required (statutory periodic testing and inspection or maintenance operation)

  • Drafting, where necessary, a maintenance report and filling out the logs for equipment under maintenance

  • Drafting technical specifications for subcontracted maintenance operations

  • Supervising subcontracted maintenance operations

  • Drafting the documents associated with your activity: reports, updating of drawings and process and instrumentation diagrams (PID) in conjunction with the design office, etc.

You will receive training (mentoring, accreditation, etc.) throughout your career at the ILL to help you settle in your new position and improve your job skills.
 

Your profile

  • Level 4/5 qualification (NVQ, BTEC HND or equivalent) in mechanical, fluid and energy, thermal or maintenance engineering, or significant equivalent experience.

  • Experience in curative and preventive maintenance of fluid circuits and in equipment upgrades.

  • Experience of working within a quality assurance framework, if possible in the nuclear sector.

  • Good analytical skills and excellent writing skills.

  • Knowledge of vacuum techniques (helium leak testing).

FRANCIA - EXPERIMENT SUPPORT AND INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN

Context
As an experiment support and instrument technician, you will be responsible for the operation and development of experimental equipment and for providing support for experiments conducted at the ILL.
You will act as technical contact for the instrument D11 within the Large Scale Structures group (LSS) and you will collaborate with the other technicians of the group. You will work closely with the scientists in charge of the instruments (experimental stations) you will be assigned to. Depending on the needs of the different instrument groups, you may be asked to work in parallel on other instruments or laboratories within the Science Division.
D11 is a small-angle scattering instrument devoted to soft matter studies, with one of the highest turnovers at the ILL and experiments lasting one to three days.

Your tasks
Within the LSS group, working in close collaboration with the instrument team, you will have the following duties:

  • Carry out maintenance, troubleshooting and repair work on the instruments and associated equipment

  • Assist in the coordination of large technical projects

  • Assist in-house and visiting scientists with the preparation of their experiments and advise instrument users on technical matters concerning sample environment and instrumentation during experiments

  • Produce drawings (in SolidWorks), tune equipment and maintain technical documentations

  • Participate in the design and development of equipment for D11 and other instruments of the LSS group or the ILL soft matter laboratories in collaboration with other ILL services

  • Ensure compliance with instrument safety regulations, particularly those related to nuclear safety.

Your profile

  • You have a Level 4/5 qualification (e.g. BTEC HNC/HND or equivalent) in applied physics and instrumentation or equivalent, with a few years of professional experience

  • You are at ease with the use of commercial electronics and conventional physical measurement methods, such as optical, electrical or mechanical methods, for measuring pressures, liquid and gas flow control, etc.

  • You can perform maintenance on conventional equipment, including laboratory apparatus

  • You have a practical approach to your work and are keen to learn new skills

  • You are capable of working independently on a wide variety of projects

  • You possess the necessary interpersonal skills to work with in-house and visiting scientists.

Core mission
You will join the ILL’s 11-person Health Physics Group, reporting to the Health Physics, Safety, and Environ-ment Service (SRSE). The role of this multicultural team of experts is to ensure provision of the radiation protection for staff working on ILL’s High-Flux Reactor installations.

Your tasks
As a member of the team, you will take an active role in the following:

  • Preparing operations involving the risk of irradiation and contamination and ensuring radiation protec-tion for those involved

  • Taking radiological measurements in the installations, performing analyses in the laboratory (in compli-ance with the 17025 standard), and interpreting the results

  • Periodically testing the proper functioning of the health physics instruments

  • Preparing documentation associated with your activity (instructions, reports and technical notes)

  • Performing basic repairs to the conventional fixed or mobile health physics instruments

  • Assisting with the provision of mandatory health physics training in French or English

  • Assisting with the dosimetry monitoring for workers.

Following a period of training, you will be required to perform stand-by safety duties which are carried out outside the Institute’s normal working hours.

Your profile

  • Level 4 qualification (NVQ, BTEC, HNC or equivalent) in health physics or equivalent

  • Some initial professional experience in a radioactive environment would be an advantage.

  • Experience in a radioactivity measurements laboratory and experience in the use of the NF EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard would be appreciated.

  • The ability to work both alone and in a team, with a sense of initiative and a methodical approach.

  • You must have a sound knowledge of English. Knowledge of French is desirable; knowledge of German would be an advantage.
