Context
The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world and hosts over 2000 visits by scientists per year, who come to carry out world-class research.

Are you interested in taking up a new challenge in our international institute?Come and join our Instrumentation and Control group, which forms part of the Electricity and Electronics Service in ILL’s Reactor Division. In compliance with associated regulations, the Instrumentation and Control group carries out modernisation work, maintenance work and performance tests on ILL’s instrumentation, on neutron, radiation protection and thermodynamic measuring instruments and on systems for emergency shutdown and reactor operation.

Your tasks
Reporting to the Head of the Electricity and Electronics Service, you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Manage, lead and develop a team of five technicians
  • Plan and prepare maintenance work and periodic inspections and testing in collaboration with the operators
  • Lead and carry out projects to overhaul obsolete installations and projects to create new installations, as well as performing maintenance operations (from drafting specifications through to qualification procedures and commissioning)
  • Prepare maintenance and test procedures
  • Monitor subcontractors and report on activities concerning the quality management system
  • Draft documentation on the installations for the operators.
Your profile
  • You have a Level 7 qualification (Master’s degree or equivalent) in electronics, electrical engineering, maintenance or equivalent, with experience in control systems equipment for industrial or nuclear processes.
  • We are looking for candidates with initial experience in a management position and/or project management role, as well as an interest in managing a team.
  • You are able to use electrical drawings to modify control system equipment/instrumentation in an industrial environment.
  • You are proficient in the use of measuring devices and signal generators.
  • You have a service-oriented attitude and a pragmatic approach; you must also comply with regulations and be capable of managing priorities.
  • You have excellent writing skills in French.
  • You have a hands-on, meticulous approach to your work, as well as a sense of initiative and autonomy.
  • Fluency in English would be an advantage.

Context
The LSS group comprises a range of instruments designed to carry out studies on the structure of matter on a scale of one to hundreds of nanometers and up to microns. The range of science covered is broad, from polymer and colloid science through structural biology, materials science and magnetism.

Your tasks
Working within the LSS Group in the field of Neutron Reflectometry, and while carrying out your own active research programme on biophysical or soft matter systems at interfaces, you will be responsible for:

  • co-running the FIGARO reflectometer, participating both in the day-to-day operation of the instrument as well as its technical development and upgrades,
  • providing support to users for scientific experiments and offering guidance with data analysis,
  • promoting scientific partnerships in your field of research,
  • participating in the longer term development of instrumentation, sample environment and data analysis.
Your profile
  • PhD in physics, biophysics or physical chemistry.
  • Experience of research in soft matter or biological systems at solid/liquid and/or liquid/gas interfaces.
  • General skills in method and/or software development would be an asset.
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL).

Context

Under the responsibility of the Head of the Site Security and Protection Service (SSP), which is part of the ILL’s Reactor Division, you will help to ensure the safety and security of persons and property on the site. As a member of the Site Security and Protection team, you will assist in the surveillance of the various secured areas on the ILL site and will work in collaboration with the shift teams in the reactor control room. .

Your duties
Your duties will be to:

Perform CCTV site surveillance and alarm handling from the Security PCs.
Take the appropriate response actions to the situations encountered (triggered alarms or security events).
Perform surveillance on the installations.
Request assistance from and guide specialist emergency services or intervention teams.
Issue site access authorisations and carry out entry and exit controls at different ILL locations.
Conduct security patrols.
Act as a first responder in the event of a fire and liaise with external emergency services.
Take action upon request by the emergency services or provide assistance to victims.
Perform various alarm verifications.
Process and relay site-security-related information and fill in the service logbook.
Take part in the periodic tests and inspections for which the Site Security and Protection Service is responsible.
Facilitate access as appropriate to the different zones for visitors, researchers and scientists within the responsibility of the SSP.

Your profile

You have a Level 3/4 qualification (‘A’ level equivalent) in the field of security
You hold a valid private security guard licence (CNAPS licence, SIA licence or equivalent).
You have solid professional experience in security or in the provision of assistance to people, whether in the private or public sector, which you have developed through previous experience as a soldier, police officer or firefighter
You are dynamic and meticulous, follow rules and respect your managers. You thrive on teamwork and must be able to demonstrate a high degree of adaptability.
You have no difficulty using computer technology or monitoring technology (screens) required for the job. • You are able to handle stress and remain in control of yourself at all times.
You are able to apply the appropriate procedures and instructions, but can also show initiative and discerning judgment.
Your profile is eligible for clearance by the authorities (in-depth administrative screening (background checks).

 

Your working hours
You will be required to work staggered hours (shifts of 12 hours 15 minutes), alternating day and night shifts, including the weekend. In the event of a crisis, you will also have to perform an emergency response role outside of your usual responsibilities to manage the crisis.

Contexte
Rejoignez l’équipe « Pile Combustible & Sources » rattachée au Service Mécanique de la Division Réacteur de l’ILL.
Vous serez en charge, avec d’autres techniciens, de l’exploitation et de la maintenance des équipements de la cuve du réacteur dénommée "Bloc-Pile". Votre périmètre d’action s’étendra sur l’ensemble structures mécaniques internes du réacteur (barres de sécurité, barre de pilotage, doigts de gant neutroniques, canaux neutroniques, équipements d’expérimentation intégrés) et des installations associées (tampon de rejets différés, installations de pompage à vide…).
 
Vos missions
Vos missions seront notamment les suivantes :
Réaliser les changements d’échantillons sur les équipements expérimentaux internes au bloc pile (changement de sources radioactives dans un doigt de gant par exemple).
Préparer et réaliser les interventions de maintenance sur les équipements mécaniques en milieu radioactif.
Etudier et réaliser des modifications d’amélioration des installations, des outillages utilisés sur les chantiers.
Suivre les interventions sous-traitées.
Réaliser les essais périodiques règlementaires.
Rédiger les procédures, spécifications techniques, comptes rendus, rapports, etc.
Fournir une assistance occasionnelle à l’exploitation des autres installations du Groupe.
La fonction implique une très bonne autonomie à moyen terme et après formation par compagnonnage.
 
Votre profil
BAC+2 en génie mécanique ou maintenance industrielle (ou équivalent), ou expérience équivalente dans ces deux domaines.
La pratique de la maintenance d’équipements mécaniques au sein d’installations industrielles nucléaires est un plus.
Personne de terrain et très bonne autonomie.
Bonnes capacités rédactionnelles (procédures, spécifications techniques, comptes rendus techniques).
Bonne capacité d’analyse.
Esprit d’équipe, polyvalence, esprit d'initiative.
Maîtrise de la langue française indispensable.
Connaissance de la langue anglaise appréciée.

FRANCIA - SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN

Context
The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) is an international research organisation at the forefront of neutron science and technology. Come and join the ILL’s Advanced Neutron Environment Service (SANE), responsible for the development, maintenance and user support for equipment used to subject samples to extreme temperature conditions (30 mK to 2000 K). The equipment is used not only for cryogenics, intense magnetic fields (40 T), high temperature and high pressure (220 kbar), but also for humidity, electric fields, etc.

Your tasks
Principally working in the laboratory and the experimental halls, your duties will be to:

  • Maintain, fix, repair and configure cryogenic equipment
  • Provide support to your colleagues and scientists in order to ensure the proper functioning of the experimental programmes
  • Draft and update technical documentation and occasionally conduct internal training sessions
  • Contribute to the development of new sample environments
  • Work in collaboration with your team to fix and resolve technical issues.
Your profile
  • You have a Level 5/6 qualification (HND, NVQ, undergraduate degree or equivalent) in physical measurements and instrumentation or equivalent.
  • You have at least five years of professional experience in the area.
  • You have good mechanical skills and a genuine desire to gain more advanced knowledge, such as in TIG welding, brazing, industrial drawing, etc.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of cryogenics and vacuum technology (helium leak detection, etc.) would be an advantage.
  • You should be organised, enjoy working in a team and have a service-oriented attitude.
  • You are a good listener and have excellent interpersonal skills.
