PROJECT BUYER

The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world and hosts over 2000 visits by scientists per year, who come to carry out world-class research.

We currently have a vacancy for a: Project buyer

Every year the ILL’s Purchasing Service places orders and contracts worth a total of around 50 million euros. Reporting to the head of this service, which is part of the ILL’s Administration Division, you will be in charge of coordinating and monitoring - in part or in full - some of the Purchasing Service’s key projects.

Duties:
You will be responsible for a certain number of the deliverables to be produced in the framework of a major project to update the Institute’s purchasing rules:

  • Assisting users in adapting specifications to comply with the new rules
  • Implementing a communication plan aimed at in-house purchase requesters (readiness for change)
  • Renegotiating certain contracts and blanket orders in order to comply with the new rules
  • Analysing and proposing tools for improving purchasing performance.
You will be responsible for coordinating the “E-bidding” project (Electronic Tender Management):
  • Drawing up and monitoring the Project Plan and the associated dashboard
  • Steering and monitoring the project up to its implementation phase
  • Setting up the necessary reporting mechanisms and the supplier database.
In the framework of ongoing discussions about outsourcing, you will be responsible for:
  • Coordinating, monitoring and steering the feasibility study up to a possible implementation phase.

In the context of large-scale investment projects related to reinforcing the physical protection of the ILL site and upgrading scientific instruments, you will be required – in liaison with the specialised buyers - to conduct consultations with potential suppliers and organise calls for tender in compliance with the Institute's purchasing rules.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent qualification with cross-disciplinary knowledge of purchasing and information systems.
  • Experience of working as a buyer in industry or a research environment with an international dimension. You also have project management experience.  
  • Proficiency in the use of ERP systems and IT applications related to purchasing.
  • Ability to work independently and have a meticulous approach to your work; with excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to be a team player with a strong service-oriented attitude and to take initiative while complying with regulatory requirements.

Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. A sound knowledge of English and French is essential. Knowledge of German would be an advantage.

We currently have a vacancy for a: Quality Engineer

Duties:

You will join the ILL’s Quality, Risk Management and Nuclear Safety Unit (CQSR - Cellule Qualité Sûreté Risques), which reports directly to ILL Management, where you will be part of a small, dynamic team of five people. As quality engineer, you will be actively involved in the development and maintenance of the ILL’s Integrated Management System (IMS), which enables the Institute to comply with the regulatory requirements set out in the French ministerial decree (arrêté) of 7 February 2012 on basic nuclear installations (known as INBs - Installations Nucléaires de Base).
Your main duties will be to:

  • Propose solutions to help process managers maintain and improve their processes

  • Help process managers to prepare and lead process reviews

  • Prepare IMS Management reviews

  • Manage and monitor process performance indicators

  • Provide training to the relevant target groups and raise staff awareness of the quality approach/IMS

  • Prepare and conduct internal and external quality audits (including field work)

  • Analyse anomalies (HOF analysis – Human and Organisational Factors, root cause analysis) and propose improvements

  • Conduct regulatory monitoring relating to your field of activity.

This multifaceted position represents a real opportunity to bring a proactive and creative approach to dealing with a wide range of issues and subjects (technical, quality, regulatory, etc.). In this context, you will be required to work in a cross-functional capacity with a large portion of the ILL's staff, including the scientists.
Qualifications and experience:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in quality engineering or Master’s degree in general engineering with relevant experience in quality engineering

  • At least 3 years of professional experience

  • Experience of quality engineering in the nuclear sector (knowledge of regulations applicable to basic nuclear installations) would be a plus

  • Excellent writing skills in French

  • Well-organised and methodical with a responsive attitude; good teamwork skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).

 

Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must be fluent in French and have a sound command of English. Knowledge of German would be an advantage.

MECHANICAL OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN

The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, and founded by France, Germany and the United Kingdom, is Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons and operates the brightest neutron source in the world. The ILL’s Reactor Division, whose role is to produce the neutrons needed to supply the ILL’s scientific instruments, is responsible for operating all the technical installations associated with the reactor. It currently has a vacancy for a: Mechanical Operations Technician

Duties:
Come and join one of the six shift teams belonging to the ILL’s Operations Group, which has round-the-clock responsibility for reactor operations. Each team comprises a shift leader and four operations technicians and, after undergoing statutory training to obtain the necessary certification, you will take up the post of Mechanical Operations technician.
Your main duties will be to:

  • operate the reactor installations (preparation of miscellaneous hydraulic, electrical and fluid circuits)

  • monitor the reactor, shut down reactor installations in safe mode and perform minor repairs

  • prepare and conduct periodic tests and reactor startup tests

  • draft operating procedures and instructions

  • design and implement modifications to improve operating conditions.

You will work shifts on a rota basis (2 x 12 hours).

Qualifications and experience:

  • You have a Level 4 qualification (e.g. BTEC HND or equivalent) in one of the following areas: industrial engineering, process engineering, mechanical maintenance, or thermal or electrical engineering, and at least three years’ practical experience in an industrial setting. 

  • Experience of reactor operations in nuclear environment would be an asset.

  • You have a methodical and meticulous approach to your duties and possess good writing skills.

  • You are able to work independently or as part of a team, have a strong service-oriented attitude and are able to take initiative while complying with regulatory requirements.

Language skills:
