We currently have a vacancy for a: Mechanical Production Technician
Duties:
As part of the Neutron Optics Service (SON), you will join the Multilayers Group and its 4-person team in charge of the manufacture of “supermirrors” (metal multilayer mirrors) for the ILL’s scientific instruments.
You will be responsible for producing these supermirrors using a deposition machine.
Your duties will be to:
• Produce these metal supermirrors notably based on Co/Ti and Ni/Ti
• Ensure the smooth operation, maintenance and continuous upgrade of the deposition machine CVD
• Characterise supermirror performance using neutron and/or X-ray reflectometry
• Contribute to the development and design of innovative neutron optics components.
Qualifications and experience:
• NVQ Level 4, BTEC HND (or equivalent) in a technical field (such as mechanical engineering, instrumentation, optical engineering or materials engineering).
• Basic knowledge of mechanical design and conventional machining.
• Complementary skills in another technical field, such as electricity, automation, vacuum techniques or optics are an asset.
Personal skills:
• Ability to be meticulous and open-minded.
• Interest in taking up new technical challenges and learning in new areas.
• Good manual skills and aptitude to design and produce simple mechanical assemblies.
• Ability to use your ingenuity and creativity to provide innovative solutions to satisfy the unique and constantly evolving needs of our scientists.
Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.
