Technician (M/F) Environmental radiation monitoring
Duties:
You will join the ILL’s Environment Laboratory team, comprising six technicians and one engineer, which is responsible for environmental radiation monitoring on and in the vicinity of the ILL site. You will perform part of your duties in the laboratory and another part in the field. More specifically, your duties will involve:

taking environmental samples, analysing them in the laboratory and interpreting the results
-
operating and maintaining 4 fixed monitoring stations located outside the ILL site and stations monitoring the release of liquid effluents, some of which contain low levels of radioactivity

calibrating and performing first-line maintenance of the various measuring channels.
You will be trained to be multi-skilled in all these different tasks.
Qualifications and experience:

Technical qualification (NVQ level 4, BTEC HNC/HND, Bachelor of Science or equivalent) in chemistry, instrumentation, health physics or safety and the environment, with an interest in broadening your skills.

A prior experience of performing measurements in the laboratory is necessary for the role.

A professional experience of working in the nuclear sector or, at least, theoretical knowledge of radioactivity, health physics or environmental monitoring would be an advantage.

Expertise in the operation and/or mechanical maintenance of industrial installations would be an asset.

Ability to both be a team player and to work independently.
Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.
