FRANCIA - TECHNICIAN IN MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE AND NUCLEAR WASTE MANAGEMENT

The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, and founded by France, Germany and the United Kingdom, is Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons and operates the brightest neutron source in the world. The ILL’s Reactor Division, whose role is to produce the neutrons needed to supply the ILL’s scientific instruments, is responsible for operating all the technical installations associated with the reactor. It currently has a vacancy for a: Technician in Mechanical Maintenance and Nuclear Waste Management

Duties:
As a member of the Reactor Division’s Mechanical Engineering Service, you will join the team responsible for the operation and maintenance of the lifting and handling equipment for our nuclear research reactor. Part of your work will be devoted to the processing of radioactive waste, in conjunction with our Health Physics, Safety and Environment Service (SRSE).
Your duties will include:

  • Operating and maintaining the reactor’s handling equipment (fuel element loading and unloading operations, fuel handling columns, cranes and gantries, hot cell, maintenance of diesel generator sets, etc.)

  • Managing work sites from start to finish

  • Drafting the associated technical documentation (procedures, technical specifications, etc.).

During the periods when you are transferred temporarily to the SRSE, you will also be responsible for:

  • Collecting radioactive waste at the facility

  • Removing, cutting up and sorting bulky waste according to predefined criteria

  • Assisting with the characterisation of waste using gamma spectrometry and the x-ray inspection of waste drums.

This position involves working with a high degree of autonomy in the medium term.
 

Qualifications and experience:

  • NVQ Level 3 or 4 or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering or industrial maintenance with some experience of working in a nuclear environment.

  • You have a “hands-on”, methodical approach to your work with good organisational skills and writing skills.

  • You are able to work independently or as part of a team and are able to take initiative while complying with regulatory requirements.

Duties:
Working in a specific purchasing sector, you will develop and promote the ILL’s purchasing policy and will be responsible for:

  • Analysing needs in close consultation with in-house customers/purchase requesters (scientists, engineers, project leaders, etc.)

  • Sourcing suppliers and keeping up to date with commercial and technological developments

  • Issuing and following up invitations to tender

  • Negotiating prices based on a total cost approach (price, quality, terms of payment, delivery schedule, transport, etc.)

  • Preparing the documentation for the submission of planned purchases to the Institute’s various approval committees

  • Following-up orders together with in-house customers and monitoring supplier relations

  • Managing orders in the ERP system

  • Managing the supplier database (selection, evaluation, qualification and optimisation).

Concerning the strategic suppliers in your purchasing sector, you will:

  • Proactively propose alternative solutions

  • Set up framework agreements

  • Take charge of contract renegotiations

  • Establish partnerships

  • Set up specific reporting procedures.

Qualifications and experience:

  • You have a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in a purchasing-related area (e.g. purchasing and supply, business and administration, CIPS diploma)

  • You have some initial experience as a buyer in an industrial or research environment, ideally with an international dimension

  • An additional technical qualification (e.g. in engineering) would be an advantage

  • You are proficient in the use of office software packages and ERP systems

  • You possess sound judgment and analytical and deductive skills

  • You are responsive, able to manage priorities and have solid negotiating skills

  • You are a strong team player with integrity and a meticulous approach to your work.

The “Projects and Techniques Division”, which is responsible for the development of the ILL’s instruments and for technical support, currently has a vacancy within its IT service for a: System and Network Administrator.   

You will be part of the European project PaNOSC = Photon and Neutron Open Science Cloud.
This project brings together six major world-class European research infrastructures to create a fully integrated, pan-European information and analysis infrastructure supporting the scientific process.

Duties:
As an active member of the ILL’s “Network and Data Services” group and through your involvement in the PaNOSC project, you will have the following duties:

  • Assisting scientific users with managing the storage of scientific data
  • Participating in the activities of the Network and Data Services group, in particular the maintenance and development of the cloud computing infrastructure (OpenStack, KVM, Docker, etc.)
  • Contributing, with the help of the group and of experts in the field, to the implementation of a solution enabling the transfer of large amounts of data between remote sites
  • Assisting with the deployment and maintenance of tools to give scientists access to cloud computing.

Qualifications and experience:

  • NVQ level 4 (or equivalent qualification) minimum in IT infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Linux and standard Linux services (NFS, LDAP, File transfer protocol, etc.) would be appreciated.
  • Knowledge of OpenStack, virtualisation and container technologies would also be appreciated.
  • You are a recognised team player.

Duties:

Reporting to the head of the Design Office of the Mechanical Service of the Experimental Halls, you will be responsible for the mechanical design of ILL instruments, equipment and infrastructure.
You will have the following responsibilities:
  • Pre-project and project design studies for the development of new instruments, equipment and infrastructure, including the definition of input data
  • Design of mechanical assemblies: initial design, development of technical solutions, sizing, conceptual and detailed design studies, production and verification of manufacturing drawings
  • Drafting of design and manufacturing specifications, coordination of outsourced design work and manufacturing operations, involvement in assembly and test phases in liaison with the relevant ILL services
  • Performance of finite-element preliminary calculations.
Qualifications and experience:
You have an NVQ Level 4 or equivalent qualification (e.g. BTEC HND or bachelor’s degree) in mechanical engineering and 10 to 15 years’ experience of mechanical design work in a design office environment.
You have some knowledge of the design of large vacuum chambers (tens of m3), as well as of scientific instrumentation and precision engineering (from 0.1 mm to 0.01 mm).
You have a passion for technical challenges, a methodological approach to your work and a sense of teamwork. You are familiar with the use of mechanical design software (SolidWorks or equivalent) and finite element analysis software (SolidWorks Simulation Professional or equivalent).

The ILL’s Recruitment and Integration Group is in charge of managing the end-to-end recruitment and integration process as well as some of the associated administrative formalities (employment contracts, amendments, etc.), in conjunction with the Personnel Administration and Payroll Group. We recruit internationally in the scientific, technical and administrative sectors.

Duties:
You will provide administrative support to the group in close collaboration with two other assistants. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Posting job opportunities internationally, including on various social media sites
  • Tracking applications, organising interviews, communicating with the applicants in French and English
  • Preparing contracts and amendments in compliance with French labour law
  • Dealing with residence formalities for non-French staff (visas, work permits)

L'Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), implanté à Grenoble et fondé par la France, l'Allemagne et le Royaume-Uni, est un centre international de recherche fondamentale. Leader européen en sciences neutroniques, l'ILL exploite la source de neutrons la plus intense au monde. La "Division Réacteur", dont la mission est de produire les neutrons alimentant les dispositifs expérimentaux, est chargée de faire fonctionner l'ensemble des installations techniques spécifiques au réacteur. Elle recherche un·e: Ingénieur·e Sûreté d’exploitation

Vous collaborez avec le Responsable de la Cellule Sûreté de la Division Réacteur, en conformité avec la réglementation relative aux Installations Nucléaires de Base (INB).

Fonction:
Vos missions consistent à :

  • Veiller au respect du référentiel de sûreté de l’installation : vérifier et /ou valider la bonne déclinaison des exigences de sûreté dans les documents opératoires applicables (consignes, modes opératoires, procédures, spécifications,..)
  • Mettre à jour le référentiel de sûreté de l’installation et rédiger des bilans de sûreté
  • Réaliser des analyses de risques et des études de Sûreté Nucléaire
  • Prendre part aux inspections de l’Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire (ASN) et rédiger des lettres de suite
  • Piloter la rédaction et le traitement des fiches d'écart, des déclarations d’évènement et des comptes rendus d'évènements significatifs
  • Réaliser des contrôles de premier niveau sur le terrain.
Ces missions sont en interface avec les équipes d'exploitation, le Bureau de Coordination et d’Assurance Qualité (BCAQ) et la Cellule Qualité Sûreté Risque (CQSR).
Après habilitation, vous intégrerez le cycle d’astreintes des ingénieurs de la division Réacteur.

Formation / Expérience:

  • Bac+5 (ou équivalent) avec au moins 5 ans d'expérience professionnelle dans le domaine de la sûreté nucléaire, génie nucléaire, études de dangers des ICPE ou dans l’exploitation d’une INB.
  • Expérience professionnelle dans les techniques nucléaires.
  • Aptitude à réaliser des études d’ingénieur dans des domaines tels que génie nucléaire, mécanique, thermo hydraulique, neutronique, etc.
  • Bonnes relations interpersonnelles, rigueur et sérieux, bonnes qualités rédactionnelles.
Connaissances linguistiques:
Le caractère international de notre centre de recherche nous amène à accorder une attention particulière aux candidatures provenant également d'autres pays que la France. Un français courant (oral et écrit) est requis, ainsi qu’une pratique de l’anglais (formation prise en charge par l'ILL). Des connaissances en allemand sont un atout.
