The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, and founded by France, Germany and the United Kingdom, is an international centre for fundamental research. It is Europe's leading centre for research using neutrons and operates the brightest neutron source in the world. The ILL's Reactor Division currently has a vacancy for a: Mechanical Engineering and Maintenance Technician
Duties:
By taking up this position you will be joining the ILL Reactor Division's Fluids Group, which is responsible for operating and maintaining the reactor circuits and related mechanical equipment (pumps, valves, compressors etc.), as well as performing the chemical analyses required for running the reactor and managing welding operations. Together with the other technicians in the group you will be more particularly responsible for the maintenance, operation and surveillance of an effluent releases unit, which monitors the radioactivity of the ILL's liquid effluents.
Your main duties will be to:

Run, maintain and repair these systems
-
Manage sub-contracted operations
-
Perform the statutory periodic tests and inspections

Draft the procedures, technical specifications, instrumentation diagrams (PID), reports, etc. in compliance with the ILL’s Integrated Management System
-
Assist on an occasional basis with the operation of other equipment managed by the Fluids Group.
This post interfaces with the work of other ILL services (electronics and electrics, reactor operations, health physics and environment) and requires a rapid capacity to work autonomously.
Qualifications and experience:

Level 4-5 qualification (HND or equivalent) in mechanical engineering or industrial maintenance, together with at least 5 years’ professional experience in industrial maintenance

Maintenance experience on pumping circuits and familiarity with simple fluid mechanics calculations

Experience of working within a quality assurance framework

Excellent writing skills (for the drafting of procedures, technical specifications, technical reports)

"Hands-on” approach and a high level of autonomy
-
Good analytical skills
-
Team spirit, versatility and the ability to show initiative.
Language skills:
As an international research centre we are particularly keen to ensure that we attract applicants from outside France. The successful candidate must have a sound knowledge of English and some knowledge of French (or be willing to learn it; a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.
